What are Alpacas?
The Alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a domesticated breed of South American
camel-like
ungulates, derived from the wild vicuña. It is a modified
ruminant with a three chambered stomach and chews cud through

rumination
like a goat or cow. Alpacas were a cherished treasure of the
ancient Incan civilization and played a central role in the Incan culture
that was located on the high Andean Plateau and mountains of South
America.
