(Rose and Joe) bought our original property in 1997 in Jackson, we originally had aspirations of making it a horse boarding facility. After holding on to it for a few years undeveloped, we starting doing research and learned about Alpacas. After about two years of intense research and reading, we decided to take the plunge and bought our first group of animals in 2003.
After many years in Jackson, we realized the ground was not going to ever produce hay, and the zoning laws to build a home were too restrictive and we started looking elsewhere.
In 2011, we sold our Jackson farm to the state of NJ and moved our entire operation to Jobstown, NJ about 15 minutes west. The new farm dates back to 1740 and has a history of agriculture pre-dating historical records, so the ground is good and the pacas happy.
We have pasture and are able to grow our own hay.
We are also able to have our yarn shop on the property which was completed in 2015.
The name Alma Park comes from the subdivision that was originally set to occur on our original Jackson property. We thought it was catchy and fit the industry.
Alpacas growing fiber is a renewable resource and no Alpacas are ever hurt when we shear them. It's just like getting a haircut.
